Bulgaria discusses temporary ban on grain supplies from Ukraine

Bulgarian authorities are discussing the possibility of imposing a ban on grain imports from Ukraine, the country’s technical government agriculture minister Yavor Gechev has said.

“It is necessary to protect Bulgarian interests, moreover, when two states react in this way and we do not do it, the amount of Ukrainian grain on our territory will increase,” TASS quoted Gechev as saying on the air of Bulgarian National Radio.

He said that he was waiting for reports on the legal component of the bans imposed by Hungary and Poland.

Earlier, Poland and Hungary announced a ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine after farmers in European countries faced losses due to overstocking their markets with Ukrainian grain.
