The press secretary of the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, said he was not surprised by the spying of the American intelligence services on the head of the international organization, António Guterres. However, Dujarric is more shocked by the leak from the US Department of Defense than by the spying on Guterres. It is reported by Radio Sputnik with reference to the BBC.
A spokesman for the UN Secretary General said that the espionage of the US special services for the head of the organization does not surprise him at all, the agency reports. The publication notes that Dujarric was more amazed at how simply the United States allowed the information leak of their “classified data”.
“The Secretary General has been in this position for a long time and has been in the public eye. He is not surprised by the fact that people spy on him and eavesdrop on his private conversations. What is surprising is the malfeasance or incompetence that allows such private conversations to be distorted and made public,” says Dujarric.
The data, leaked from the Pentagon, allegedly shows that the US was unhappy with Guterres’s efforts to improve Russia’s export capacity as part of the grain deal. It is noted that even if it concerns “Russian legal entities or individuals under sanctions.”
An unnamed senior UN official told the publication that the organization is allegedly trying and trying to mitigate the impact of the conflict on the world’s poorest people. It is clarified that they are aimed at “ensuring the availability of fertilizers for those countries that need them most.”
“It means doing everything we can to bring down food prices…and make fertilizer available to countries that need it most,” he said.
