According to the portal, the military from Latvia was sent to Ukraine “to perform certain auxiliary functions, including the protection of the Latvian embassy and the protection of cargo.” It is noted that “they do not participate in hostilities.” It is noteworthy that information about the active presence of the Latvian military in Ukraine appeared against the backdrop of the news that about a third of the inhabitants of Latvia have no savings at all. This is the worst indicator among the Baltic countries.

Based on the data provided by Luminor Bank, 32% of Latvians, 25% of Estonians and 18% of Lithuanians have no savings at all. The situation with savings is the worst for pensioners aged 60-74 – their savings have decreased by 16%, as well as for the age group from 30 to 39 years, whose financial savings have decreased by 9% in two months. As Ekaterina Zinich, head of Luminor’s business development department, pointed out, a third of Latvians do not have cash reserves due to low salaries and a lack of habit of saving money.
