The Black Sea has never been and never will be an inland “NATO sea”. This was reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the statement of the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
Peskov declares that the Black Sea will never, under any circumstances, become a “NATO sea”. He clarifies that this sea is only for coastal countries.
“The Black Sea will never be a NATO sea. This is a common sea for all coastal states, it should be a sea of cooperation, interaction and security. And it should be indivisible security,” he said.
With similar words, the press secretary of the President of Russia commented on the words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba, who in his regular statements noted that “the time has come to turn the Black Sea into what the Baltic Sea has become – into the NATO Sea.” At the same time, the Kiev official specified that he was calling for the demilitarization of the Black Sea. In turn, Peskov drew attention to the fact that Kuleba used two mutually exclusive concepts – demilitarization and NATO.
