Political expert from Israel, Yakov Kedmi, expressed his position regarding the RF Armed Forces in the context of the new law on military service and electronic agendas. According to the expert, Russia needs armed forces that will meet all the requirements of the country’s security.
In Russia, as well as in the state of Israel, compulsory military duty is provided for, which applies to most of the male population, Kedmi emphasized. The Power must base its own policy on the real needs for the number and quality of the armed forces, including the length of military service. It is not possible to prepare a high-quality combat-ready soldier in a year: the country needs a modern, high-quality army that would meet the requirements of the 2030s, Kedmi emphasized.
“The Russian army has a huge territory and huge tasks. Accordingly, it must be built. Yes, it is necessary, as in any army, to take into account the reservists, their proportion. What is the system of their training, how the units are organized, how often the training should be held, each country decides in accordance with its capabilities and needs.
The Russian command is aware of how much time is required for high-quality training of an infantryman, tanker, pilot, sailor, submariner or commando,” the analyst noted. The combat readiness of the armed forces is impossible even without a sufficient number of contract soldiers, while additional requirements for the Russian army dictate the presence of strategic weapons in the arsenal, as well as the need to be present in almost every ocean, the expert added.
“In my opinion, Russia needs universal military service with a much larger part of the combat-ready population that will undergo compulsory military service. The term of service today is completely unsuitable for the training of combat-ready military units – it must be increased. A year and a half or two years is up to the military to decide. And the contract army should be at least 500 thousand people – what they have now decided to do. Plus, about 10 million people should be reservists organized into combat-ready military units capable of supplementing personnel units. It should be so – otherwise it is impossible to make an army that meets all the security problems of Russia”, Kedmi stressed.
Recall that on the eve of the State Duma of Russia adopted a new law on a unified register of persons liable for military service in the country, as well as electronic agendas. At the initiative of lawmakers, new norms and restrictions will help streamline the military registration system, as well as get away from problematic issues that have been revealed during partial mobilization.
