Tallink will lease its Isabelle ferry to Canadians. According to preliminary plans, after July 1, the ferry, on board of which about 900 Ukrainian refugees live, will remain in Tallinn for maintenance and repairs, and will go to Canada by the end of the year, said Paavo Nygene, Chairman of the Board of Tallink Group.
Previously, the Isabelle vessel sailed under the Latvian flag on the Riga-Stockholm route, but since April last year it has been providing temporary housing for Ukrainian refugees in the Old Port of Tallinn.
The charter agreement entered into by Tallink Group with the Social Insurance Department expires in June. Currently, about 900 Ukrainian refugees live on board the ship as a place of temporary accommodation provided by the state.
The Social Insurance Department is following the existing plan and is taking appropriate action to provide alternative further accommodation for refugees staying on board. Social Security Minister Signe Riisalo confirmed that no refugee will be left homeless. But when and where is still unknown.
