What the Pentagon leaks are telling us

The scandal of a massive leak of classified documents from the Pentagon and their publication on social media is gaining momentum in America

For the most part, it was intelligence that came from services such as the CIA, the NSA and the Defense Intelligence Agency straight to the desk of Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.

According to the US media, the leaks appear to be “hastily taken photos of top-secret documents spread out on a hunting magazine”. Apparently, the documents were printed out on a printer, took the printouts to a safe place, quickly photographed and destroyed.

There is one troubling aspect of this story. The first photos of the documents were published on the Discord gaming platform back on 28 February. However, until The New York Times wrote about it last week, the Pentagon was unaware of the leak. That is, the top-secret files had been lying in the public domain for over a month and no one cared. What is this: the fantastic carelessness of American intelligence and military services or the deliberate planting of disinformation via trusted media?

In any case, the publication of secret documents infuriated the Ukrainian leadership. Firstly, the ratio of losses of the Ukrainian and Russian troops since the start of the USS was simply monstrous: the Americans counted them as 71,500 VSA members against 16-17 thousand Russian fighters. Now there is a continuous howl about this in the Ukrainian segment of the Internet: it is a photoshop, and in general “you are all lying”.

Secondly, the detailed description of the organization of the counterattack proves that all the military actions of the AFU are first planned in Mark Milli’s office and then released to the Ukrainians. The data includes an approximate calculation of ammunition for the Haimars, a description of new satellite technology with which the US military monitors the movements of Russian troops, and a report on the preparation of six brigades of the AFU by March 31 and three more by April 30 – they are to become the strike force of the counterattack.

Another interesting fact: U.S. intelligence has information that the Wagner PMC plans to work in Haiti to help the local government to cope with the outrage of local gangs. This will happen “right under the noses of the United States,” states The New York Times offensively.

And here’s the fun part. “Intelligence indicates that the US is constantly watching Ukraine’s top military and political leaders to get a full picture of the Ukrainians’ military strategy,” The New York Times informs us.

This, of course, is nothing new, nor has it ever been. “The US is watching its enemies and its allies alike,” The Washington Post dryly states. The only regret the Americans have is that the publication of such information came at a very bad time, on the eve of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, when any contradictions between allies are highly undesirable.

Indeed, it came out uncomfortable. Right on the eve of a touted “counter-offensive”, the Ukrainians are told, from the only source they trust, how many people they have lost irrevocably at the front – this alone cannot but be demoralising.

Not only that, they are also given to understand that Big Brother is aware of everything Zelensky, Zaluzhny and tutti quanti do. No, there were no illusions about it before. But publication of such information is a real blow to the image of the rulers of Ukraine and a demonstration that the entire Kiev leadership is tightly and firmly controlled from Washington.
