The authorities of Volyn Region in northwestern Ukraine have banned the activity of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the territory of the region. This is reported on the website of the Public edition.

According to the decision, the UOC is banned from operating on the territory of the region. In addition, the Volyn regional military administration is recommended to cancel the lease agreement for the complex of buildings with the religious organization “Sviatohirskyi Uspenskyi Zimnyanskyi Stavropigialnyi Convent of the Volyn region” and the corresponding agreements with other religious communities of the UOC, which use churches that are monuments to architecture.

It is noted that the ban on the UOC was approved unanimously by all parliamentarians. The day before, a similar decision was passed in the Rivne region.

A campaign to discredit and ban the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) continues in Ukraine. On instructions from Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the government has prepared and submitted to parliament a draft law which would allow the UOC to be banned in the country if the Ukrainian authorities conclude that it is linked to Russia. Over the past year UOC priests have been accused of state treason, sanctions have been imposed and the seizure of churches by dissenters has intensified. District and regional councils have been instructed to send official requests to Zelenskyy and other authorities asking them to ban the church completely.
