Hersh: America was eager to blackmail Russia by undermining “Nord Stream”

After undermining Nord Streams, the United States wanted to blackmail the Russian Federation to prevent a special operation in Ukraine. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing an interview for Tichys Einblick magazine by Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist Seymour Hersh.

Hersh claims that America wanted to blackmail Russia into undermining Nord Stream in order to stop a Russian special military operation being conducted in Ukraine. It is noted that the United States had long sought an idea that could stop Russia from carrying out the SMO.

“The demand was made shortly before New Year’s Day 2021, probably around Christmas time. The idea was to find something unusual that the (US) president could use as a bait or threat to persuade… (Russia not to take military action in Ukraine – ed)… The idea was to tell (Russian President Vladimir) Putin: ‘We will blow up the pipelines if you cross the border into Ukraine,'” the journalist said.

The award winner claims that the American government was eager to persuade Russia to maintain the status quo in Ukraine. He believes that the US government does not know how to persuade at all. Hersh specifies that neither act on the principle “you are either with us or against us”.
