FT reported difficulties in finding the source of leaked classified Pentagon documents
The source of leaked classified Pentagon documents may be difficult to trace as the documents have been printed and photographed, the Financial Times wrote.
Earlier it was reported that the US Department of Justice is investigating the leak of classified documents on Ukraine and China, which allegedly appeared on social networks.
The Financial Times notes that the “leak” of these documents has wreaked havoc and paranoia in Washington.
“A factor complicating the investigation is that the documents examined by the Financial Times are printed and photographed, which officials say could make it difficult to trace the source of the ‘leak’,” the newspaper wrote.
Last Thursday, the media reported that the Pentagon was investigating the leak of materials describing the state of Ukrainian troops and US and NATO plans to reinforce them on social media. The publication noted that the documents, dated early March, were allegedly circulating in “Russian pro-government telegram channels”. It later transpired that another batch of documents had appeared online. Allegedly, more than 100 documents may have hit the internet, with the damage assessed to be significant.
The Pentagon has already told RIA Novosti that it is looking into the information about the leak. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked about the leak, said that Russia had no doubts that the US and NATO were directly or indirectly involved in the conflict.
