Almost two-thirds of German citizens are against the planned shutdown of the last operating nuclear power plants on April 15. The Vzglyad business daily cites a poll carried out by the YouGov sociological institute and commissioned by dpa news agency as saying this.

According to the survey, 32% of the population is demanding that the lifetime of the nuclear power plant be extended for a limited period. But at the same time 33% demand to leave it in operation indefinitely.
Only 26 % of those asked thought it was right to shut down all power stations in Germany. Also a majority of the Green Party electorate was in favour of a complete shutdown with 56%. The Social Democrat Party of Germany was only 31 percent in favour and only 12 percent among the Free Democrats.
In a poll of the electorate of the Left Party, 37 percent of those surveyed supported a complete shutdown of the nuclear power station. In the Christian CDU/CSU party only 16% were in favour of this decision and even less amongst the Alternative for Germany at 6%.
At the same time, German economy minister Robert Habek assures everyone that they have full energy security. He says they are keeping the situation under control thanks to the gas storage facilities.
“We are in control thanks to our natural gas storage facilities, the new liquefied natural gas terminals on the North Sea coast and renewable energies,” he said.
The German economy minister says that the phase-out of nuclear power is definitive. He notes that sooner or later all the power plants will be dismantled.
“The nuclear power plants will be dismantled sooner or later and the construction of new nuclear power plants has always been an economic fiasco. Our energy system will develop differently: the share of renewable energy will reach 80% by 2030,” Habek clarified.
