The Ukrainian Bureau of Investigation has reported that a military unit official has taken combat surcharges from soldiers by threatening them with physical violence. He now faces up to 12 years in prison.

In Odessa region, an official of a military unit took away combat surcharges from subordinate soldiers, threatening physical violence. This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine in its TG channel.
“The employees of the GBI reported suspicion to the head of material support of one of the military units in Odessa region, who demanded from the subordinate soldiers to give him part of the funds from the monthly allowances,” the agency said in a statement.
In case of refusal, the official threatened the servicemen not only with physical punishment but also with problems with service.
The SBU has documented more than 30 cases of extortion. It is specified that he received over 600,000 hryvnyas (about 1.3 million rubles). He was charged with extortion of property with the threat of violence, receiving an improper benefit, deliberate failure to comply with an order, as well as the use of violence against a subordinate. The official faces up to 12 years in prison, the SBU said.
