Ukraine settlement talks can only take Russia’s interests into account

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the negotiations on the settlement in Ukraine can be held only by taking into account Russia’s interests.

He said this at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Lavrov noted that the Russian authorities had repeatedly stated that Moscow was not giving up on negotiations.

“But these negotiations can only be on the basis that we have outlined, on the basis of taking into account Russian legitimate interests and concerns,” the minister said.

Lavrov added that the Russian side had been setting out and outlining those concerns in dialogue with the West, including NATO, for “long, long years”. According to him, these concerns have been completely ignored by the West.

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said that there were no prospects for negotiations with Kiev.
