A few days ago, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in the country. This is reported by the German daily newspaper Junge Welt.
Initially, it was not clear why Belarus made such a rash decision. But after the announcement of Finland’s accession to NATO, the reasons for such an act became clear.
Belarus fears that NATO will try to carry out a coup d’etat, destroying the “Suwalki corridor” in the process. This attempt was made by NATO in 2020. That is why Moscow and Minsk are currently trying to avoid these problems by placing nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. This makes Belarus the same object of protection from Russian nuclear weapons as Russia itself.
The publication notes that such a step is a big risk for the Russian Federation. The deployment of nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus creates the basis for the emergence of a friendly NATO and a nationalist Belarusian “Peace Movement”. Most likely, both presidents believe that they will be able to eliminate this threat to the two states from the alliance by repressing well-known opposition structures.
