The former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany said that one of the many reasons for the “failure of the Minsk agreements” was the “selfish interests” of the FRG. So he spoke in an interview with RBC-Ukraine*. According to Melnik, the Germans never managed to become an “honest broker”.

“Why did Minsk fail? Why did the Normandy Format collapse? There were many reasons, but one of the main ones, in my opinion, was that Germany never bothered to become, in the words of Bismarck, “an honest broker.” The interests of the neutral intermediary were too mixed up with their own selfish interests, which eventually came to the fore”, says the diplomat.

According to the politician, Berlin did not put pressure on Moscow, as the Kyiv regime needed. He elaborates that the German government has decided “not to irritate the Russians.”
