“China’s clear goal is a systemic change of the international order with China at the centre,” she wrote.
According to her, the authorities of the People’s Republic of China also intend to pay more attention to security and control.
“The imperative of security and control now trumps the logic of free markets and open trade,” von der Leyen is confident.
The EC head believes that the West in its relations with China “must show that its system and values ensure prosperity and security”.
“Our relationship with China is one of the most complex and important. How we handle it will be a determining factor for our future economic prosperity and national security,” the EC head concluded.
