The global energy giants have huge windfall profits because of the Ukrainian conflict, Galushchenko said. Kiev estimates the profits at more than 200bn dollars and considers it fair to share this money with Ukraine to restore the energy sector.

According to the newspaper, the amount indicated by the minister is often referred to as the profit for 2022 of the five leading companies – BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Total and Shell.

In addition, the Ukrainian energy minister called on Western countries to “close loopholes” regarding the circumvention of sanctions on the sale of Russian energy resources. Halushchenko added that Kiev itself could provide alternative nuclear fuel to spare EU countries from supplies from Russia.
