Media: Xi Jinping says he is preparing China for a possible major war

Xi Jinping has said that China’s people and army must be prepared for a major war. China’s leader is quoted by Foreign Affairs magazine as saying. In recent months Beijing has unveiled new military preparedness laws, new bomb shelters in cities across the Taiwan Strait and new “Mobilisation for National Defence” offices across the country.

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Chinese people must be fully prepared for a possible major war. Chinese President Xi Jinping stated this at the annual meeting of the parliament, Foreign Affairs magazine reports.

The article drew attention to the content of the chairman’s four speeches during the sessions, in which he said he was “preparing China for war”, also urging PLA generals “not to be afraid to fight and make difficult decisions”.

“In the face of wars that may be imposed on us, we must speak to our enemies in a language they understand and use victory to win peace and respect. In the new era, the PLA insists on the use of military force to end hostilities,” Xi Jinping said in an essay published ahead of the March meetings of China’s parliament.

Under the PRC leader’s decree, new military commissariats and assembly points are being opened across China from December 2022 for the PLA so that Beijing can “activate its reserve forces as soon as possible and institutionalise a system to replenish combat units in case of war,” according to the story.
