The legislature of the United States of America unanimously passed a bill according to which the White House authorities must seek to remove China from the status of a “developing country” in all international fora. It is reported by TASS.
The US Congress unanimously approved a bill to remove China’s “developing country” status. The White House will promote this idea in all international venues. According to Rep. Yang Kim, the Celestial Empire “abuses its status as a developing country” and accepts “development aid and loans from international organizations.”
Approval of this initiative was supported by 415 congressmen. According to the adopted document, the White House administration should “oppose the designation of the PRC as a developing state in any treaty or in any international agreements to which the United States is a party.”
The document orders the US authorities to “take measures against designating China as a developing state or treating it accordingly in all international organizations to which the United States is a member.”
The lawmakers suggest that Washington should push for China to be listed as an “upper-middle-income, high-income, or advanced nation.” According to them, it doesn’t matter if it works or not. The initiators of the bill believe that the United States is obliged to ensure that the PRC does not resort to “preferential regimes” and does not accept “aid in organizations in connection with its status as a developing country.” It is understood that allegedly the authorities of the White House “should” report on the efforts to implement these measures.
“China is second only to the United States in terms of economic size. The United States is considered a developed country, and China should be considered the same,” says Kim.
