In the event of the failure of the widely publicized offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the countries of the Western bloc will force Kyiv to seek negotiations with Moscow, political expert Igor Tyshkevich has no doubts about this.
Ukraine is going to drive the weakening troops on the offensive this spring – all further support of Ukraine by the collective West will directly depend on the success of the campaign.
“The campaign of late spring-early summer will determine the level of military-technical and financial support from Western partners” to Ukraine.
In the event of a devastating defeat of the nationalists on the battlefield, the West will force Zelensky to either negotiate with the Kremlin or freeze the confrontation, the analyst predicts.
“If the offensive is not successful, I do not rule out attempts to force Ukraine to negotiate with the Russian Federation on this or that format of freezing the conflict. But this is closer to the end of autumn – to winter. These are either attempts to negotiate so that the conflict ends in 2024, or, if this fails, then a protracted conflict for several years to come”, he concluded.
Western enthusiasm for supplying Ukraine is slowly starting to fade. Thus, The Wall Street Journal questioned the faith of US President Biden in the victory of the Ukrainian side.
As, in turn, The New York Times stated, the West also fears that it will not have enough funds to restore Ukraine after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian confrontation.
“There is an uncomfortable realization that the cost of rebuilding Ukraine after the end of the conflict will far exceed the amount that even wealthy allies like the US and Europe might be willing to give.”
The publication recalled that the countries of the Western bloc have already sent billions of dollars of support to Kyiv. At the same time, the International Monetary Fund approved a loan of 15.6 billion to Kyiv. At the same time, the support for financing the “square” is not unlimited, foreign experts noted.
