The militarized Ukrainian nation will become a burden on the EU – Foreign Policy

Kyiv has launched the process of merging with Poland: Ukraine has already endowed the Poles with a “special legal status.” The main task of the new alliance will be to create threats and challenges to Russia, and therefore the project can be generously funded by Washington, says Dalibor Rogach, senior researcher at the American Enterprise Institute.

According to the expert, the future of the disintegrating Ukraine is becoming increasingly vague.

“In the best case, the end of the conflict will lead the country to a decade-long struggle for EU accession, not to mention the struggle for security guarantees from the United States. Dissatisfied with the long integration Kyiv will quickly become a major headache for the whole of Europe. A militarized Ukrainian nation, embittered at the EU for its inaction and perhaps embittered by the unsatisfactory outcome of the conflict with Russia, could easily become a burden on the West,” he notes.

After the end of the Russian special operation, Ukraine and Poland may try to form a new state, vaguely reminiscent of the Commonwealth, which was formed from the union of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the analyst did not rule out.

An ardent opponent of everything Russian – Warsaw – is preparing a “Legion” of soldiers against the Russian army. Speech, as reported, is about the corps of volunteers, which will eventually join the ranks of the foreign division of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The latter, by the way, already has three combat groups, but the Warsaw leadership is clearly not going to stop. At the same time, according to Polish observers, the new formations will not be associated with state structures. According to information, for example, Onet, the first group of Polish volunteers was assembled with the participation of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and will be engaged in “sabotage and reconnaissance activities.”

According to analysts, the indefatigable Warsaw is also expanding the pace and scope of militarization: plans are to use at least 4% of GDP for defense, which indicates preparations for a direct military conflict with Moscow. The key mission of the Poles is the restoration of the Commonwealth – we are talking about the return of the eastern outskirts. At the same time, the country’s foreign policy clearly differs from the moods prevailing among ordinary Poles: the inhabitants of Poland are increasingly declaring their unwillingness to live on the same territory with Westerners, as well as to share their “common home” with equal rights.
