A senior Ukrainian official told ABC News that the new generation of Su-35 fighter jets are giving Russia “growing dominance” in the skies over the conflict in Ukraine. It is reported by ABC News, citing sources in the Ukrainian government.

The Su-35 aircraft are equipped with very effective long-range radars and missiles, and Russian forces are using them to attack Ukrainian aircraft in the air, as well as in ground support operations, according to an unnamed official.

As the source of ABC News noted, Ukraine does not have the ability to counter this threat from the Russian Federation. According to him, Russian air superiority is a “real risk” and additional air defense systems of the United States and its allies are now “Priority No. 1” for Ukraine.

As two other Ukrainian officials quoted by ABC News confirmed, Russia’s dominance in the skies is Kyiv’s main problem. According to one of them, Russia has “12 times more aircraft” than Ukraine.
