There is an initiative in the European Union to ban the import of Russian liquefied natural gas without imposing new sanctions against Moscow. It is reported by RIA Novosti, referring to Bloomberg.
The European Union is considering the possibility of a complete blocking of liquefied natural gas supplies from Russia. The TV channel reports that the EU plans to implement the ban without imposing new sanctions on energy carriers from the Russian Federation.
“EU energy ministers are ready to approve a proposal that will give member governments the opportunity to temporarily prohibit Russian exporters from reserving infrastructure capacity needed for supplies in advance,” the publication says.
This decision needs the approval of the European Parliament. However, the Baltic countries, together with Poland and Finland, have already supported this initiative, the newspaper notes. Kadri Simson said in early March that the EU countries are obliged to refuse to purchase LNG from Russia. According to the politician, European companies should not renew contracts when they come to an end.
