The Belarusian Foreign Ministry said that the country does not violate international law, in particular, the provisions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), by teaching Belarusian pilots how to fly aircraft with specific ammunition. The agency emphasizes that military cooperation between the Russian Federation and Belarus takes place in strict accordance with international law.

“Military cooperation between Belarus and Russia is carried out in strict accordance with international law. The training of Belarusian pilots capable of flying aircraft with specific munitions, the modernization of such aircraft, as well as the deployment of nuclear warheads on the territory of Belarus without transferring control over them to Minsk, as well as access to relevant technologies, in no way contradict the provisions of Articles I and II of the NPT,” notes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

Also, according to the information received, it is known that the department claims that this practice is not new in the field of military cooperation between nuclear and non-nuclear powers. It is noted that NATO has long had the practice of “joint nuclear missions”.

“NATO has long had the practice of “joint nuclear missions”. The planes of the countries – members of the alliance are certified for flights with nuclear weapons, the flight personnel are being trained for such “missions”, appropriate exercises are being held. More than 150 units of US tactical nuclear weapons are stored on the territory of European countries – NATO members, more than 250 aircraft have been prepared for their possible use”, the organization summed up.
