Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organisations in Vienna, said.
“Our demands are quite modest, understandable and absolutely justified. We need the United States to abandon its hostile policy towards the Russian Federation, and then there will be a precondition for talking about the START Treaty,” he told RIA Novosti.
On February 21, President Vladimir Putin announced the suspension of Russia’s participation in the START Treaty during his address to the Federal Assembly. At the same time, he stressed that Moscow was not withdrawing from the agreement.
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the decision to suspend the country’s participation in the START Treaty would not be reconsidered. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, Washington was too late to talk about some kind of inspection plan.
