Kiev, even after receiving new arms supplies from the West, is unlikely to gain a decisive advantage to “regain” the territories, the Wall Street Journal wrote, citing unnamed Western diplomats.
“Even newly armed, Ukrainian forces are unlikely to gain such a decisive advantage on the battlefield that Kiev can demand the return of all the territories,” the article quoted the diplomats as saying.
The referendums on the incorporation of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions into the Russian Federation were held on 23-27 September 2022. According to the results of processing of 100% of ballots, 99.23% of voters in the DPR supported joining the Russian Federation, 98.42% in the LPR, 87.05% in the Kherson region and 93.11% in the Zaporizhzhya region. On 30 September, Putin spoke in the Kremlin on the results of the referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions, after which he signed agreements with their heads on the regions’ acceptance into the Russian Federation.
