Putin: Russia is not creating any military alliance with China

Russia is not creating any military alliance with China, so Western claims about the formation of an “axis” between Moscow and Beijing are untrue, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“Yes, we also have cooperation in the sphere of military-technical cooperation, we do not hide it, but everything is transparent. There is nothing secret there. We also have military cooperation, we conduct exercises,” the head of state said in an interview with Pavel Zarubin on the Russia 24 TV channel.

Putin stressed that Russia continues to hold military exercises not only with the PRC, but also with other countries, “despite the events in Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson.”

“It’s all transparent, but it’s not a military alliance,” the president said.

As the Pentagon has previously said, the US is greatly alarmed by Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Russia. According to the Pentagon, Beijing is thus showing support for Moscow amid the conflict in Ukraine.

In November 2021, Russian and Chinese defence ministers Sergei Shoigu and Wei Fenghe agreed to step up joint strategic military exercises and patrols.
