In March, White House spokesman John Kirby reported that the US President had an irresistible desire to have a telephone conversation with the Chinese President. Kirby notes that the conversation between the two leaders of the countries is not yet scheduled. Washington believes that the exchange of views between the two leaders will take place at the “appropriate” time, but at the moment Xi Jinping is “pretty busy.”
According to the agency, holding a conversation between the leaders of the countries could be the first key to normalizing relations. However, Reuters sources say that despite serious efforts by US diplomats and officials, China has shown no interest in holding the conversation. The publication concludes that US-China relations may currently be at a critically low level since the 1970s.
