The US is developing a new strategy for the Black Sea region

According to him, the bill has a deadline of June. Blinken is confident that the administration will be able to prepare a strategy by then.

The secretary of state recalled that of the six countries with access to the Black Sea, three are NATO members and “Ukraine is obviously an important friend of the United States”. In this regard, he continued, “the [US Black Sea region] strategy will focus not only on the security aspects, but also on intensifying political interaction and economic cooperation, including strengthening energy security” with these countries.

According to his statement, the U.S. is currently “focused on a much more comprehensive approach to the Black Sea region,” which, he put it, is “bigger than [the state of] California. Blinken also noted that allied countries, particularly Romania, are already sharing their views on the situation in the region with Washington, which also informs the strategy.
