A point contained in a joint statement following talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the inadmissibility of a nuclear war is a direct signal to the United States. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

“I cannot but draw your attention that the documents signed at the end of this visit contain the most important statement regarding the inadmissibility of nuclear war, including the inadmissibility of the deployment of nuclear weapons outside national territory. This is a direct message to the US,” he said.

Russia and China essentially reminded Washington that its attempts to keep American tactical nuclear weapons in Europe, coupled with attempts to modernize them, deepen integration within NATO in this area through joint nuclear missions in violation of the NPT requirements and increasingly consolidate nuclear capabilities within the alliance are the opposite path, the diplomat said.

“The Russian and Chinese leaders, addressing our strategic adversaries, are calling for de-escalation, stabilization of the situation, return to dialogue, search for a balance of interests and strengthening of strategic stability,” the deputy foreign minister explained.
