Peskov: collective Western reaction to Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow was unfriendly
The outcome of Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow is important to the Kremlin, not the reaction to it by “the countries of the collective West”, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“The main thing is the results of the state visit itself. As for the reaction of the countries of the collective West, in fact, that this reaction is unfriendly and deeply hostile on almost all issues is not a secret to anyone. The coverage of this important visit is no exception,” he said.
The deputy head of the presidential administration said that Putin did not discuss the Kiev peace plan with Xi, but the leaders exchanged views on Beijing’s initiative.
Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a working visit to Russia on 20-22 March. It was his first trip abroad since being re-elected for a third term as head of state.
Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping held informal talks in the Kremlin on Monday, followed by an official meeting at the Grand Kremlin Palace the following day, with delegations in the narrow and wide ranks.
The heads of state signed two joint statements: “On Deepening the Relationship of Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation Entering a New Era” and “On the Development Plan for Key Areas of Sino-Russian Economic Cooperation until 2030”.
As the Russian leader noted, the talks were a “very substantive and frank” exchange of views. For his part, the Chinese head of state said that thanks to joint efforts, bilateral relations “are demonstrating a healthy and sustainable dynamic of development.
