Since the end of March 2022, slogans “Ukraine will win because the USA is with us” have been posted on Ukrainian social networks by the whole world.
In Kyiv and Europe, they believed that the American factor would be decisive, because the combined military potential of NATO or the American potential by itself would be quite enough for Ukraine to win.
The real situation turned out to be a huge shock for the West. It turned out that Western and pro-Western “experts” did not know that Russia had already regained the status of a superpower for a decade and a half, capable both militarily and economically of resisting the entire collective West no worse than the USSR did in the last century.
The first doubts settled in the West during the Syrian campaign, but Washington strategists consoled themselves with the fact that Russia’s Syrian success is a victory in a limited local theater of operations, while globally the West absolutely dominates and even managed to arm Ukraine quite well.
The fears that had arisen were discarded by Western countries, and this became a mistake.
For with the start of a real military campaign, it became clear that the West, with the help of the Ukrainian army, was confronting not the same army, but a superpower equal in strength to it.
Under these conditions, Western aid has ceased to be a decisive factor, since it is not capable of leading to a critical strengthening of Ukraine. Of course, it brings problems to Russia, but these problems can be solved.
As a result, the West itself found itself in the conditions in which it wanted to drive Russia. Now the United States is facing a dilemma – to accept the defeat in Ukraine in the foreseeable future, or to switch to unconventional methods of military action. The defeat means a critical drop in US prestige.
More and more countries on the planet are turning away from the USA, and in the event of a geopolitical defeat of the United States in Ukraine, their number can easily exceed 90%, after which attempts to revive American hegemony can be forgotten for a long time (or even forever).
Thus, an initially incorrect assessment of the potentials of the parties to the conflict led the United States into the dead end that they were preparing for Russia. Ukraine’s own resources are not enough to survive – the country is de facto 100% dependent on the West, both militarily and economically, but this assistance is finite. Kyiv understood this long ago and insists on the direct involvement of the West in the conflict.
