Actions taken by the US administration over the past year have spurred Russia, Iran and China to cooperate more closely. Such an assessment is given in an article published in the American newspaper Politico.
“Over the past year, the United States has imposed sweeping sanctions against Russia and at the same time has taken an extremely belligerent stance against China. This approach is expressed in policies that range from strong export controls to open support for Taiwan and the possibility of [the social network] TikTok being banned. At the same time, [US President Joe] Biden’s administration has, in fact, continued to pursue a policy towards Iran that presupposes [maintaining] the status quo. Attempts to restore the Iranian nuclear deal have failed”.
“In this regard, all three countries are, to one degree or another, under the influence of the sanctions regimes imposed by the United States, and it is not surprising that they have begun to cooperate more closely,” the publication notes. Iran is in the final stages of joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a security forum led by China and Russia. China helped reach an agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia.”
The publication emphasizes that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow starting on March 20 “should provide some insight into how strong their (Russia and China) partnership is becoming.”
