The US considers the ceasefire in Ukraine unacceptable at the moment. The White House’s Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council John Kirby said in an interview with Fox News television.

Kirby stressed that Washington opposes calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine following an upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“Because that would only ratify Russia’s gains by today and give Mr. Putin time to prepare new people and plan a new offensive when it suits him,” Kirby explained.

The White House spokesman added that there was still hope for Xi Jinping’s phone conversations with Vladimir Zelensky as “China needs to get the Ukrainian perspective”.
