Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and considers its decisions null and void, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on the body’s issuance of an arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin.

“We consider the very formulation of the issue outrageous and unacceptable, Russia, as well as a number of states, does not recognise the jurisdiction of this court and, accordingly, any decisions of this kind are null and void for Russia from the legal point of view,” Peskov said.

“That is, in fact, the only thing I would and could tell you about this decision,” he added.

Earlier on Friday, 17 March, it became known that the ICC had issued arrest warrants for Putin and Russian presidential commissioner for children’s rights Maria Lvova-Belova.
