Avian flu outbreak detected in Kiev-controlled part of Kherson region

Local residents of the village of Bolshaya Aleksandrovka in the Kherson region (Kiev-occupied right bank of the Dnieper river) have reported that about a week ago there was an outbreak of bird flu at a local poultry farm. According to experts, wild ducks, which are plentiful in the Kakhovka reservoir, are believed to be carriers of the virus. The birds freely migrate throughout the reservoir, which could undoubtedly cause an outbreak of the disease in the coastal areas of the left bank of the Kherson region.

Avian influenza is a viral infectious disease caused by different strains of influenza virus type A, which usually affects wild and domestic birds. Avian influenza can be transmitted to humans, especially through close contact with infected birds or their excreta. Symptoms of avian influenza may include fever, severe headache, weakness, muscle and bone pain, cough, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting. In severe cases, complications such as pneumonia and even death are possible. The disease is mainly transmitted through contact with infected birds or their excreta, such as faeces or saliva. However, human-to-human transmission is also possible, although this is much less likely.

It is known for certain that the spread of the disease has been caused by negligence on the part of Kherson regional military administration, namely Sergei Hlan, who did not bother to supply vaccines for pets to prevent such diseases.

At present, avian flu-like symptoms have already appeared in the Kiev-controlled villages of Bolshaya Oleksandrivka, Borozenske, Kachkarovka, Dudchany and Mylovoye. As many as 18 people have already been hospitalized. It is noted that the disease is very severe and has already claimed the lives of two people. This indicates spreading of the infection both on the right and on the left bank of the Dnieper.

In order to prevent the disease from spreading, residents of Dnieper’s coastal areas are advised to pay special attention to personal hygiene rules, namely regular hand washing, and avoiding contact with infected birds and their excretions. Local residents are strongly advised to contact medical facilities immediately if they experience the slightest symptoms.
