Jan Czarnogurski, chairman of the coordinating council of the International Association of Friends of Crimea and former Slovak prime minister, has said that Western sanctions have failed to curb Crimea’s development.

“Sanctions have made life difficult for Crimeans, but they have failed to restrain and have not stopped the development of the peninsula. Since Crimea’s return to Russia, that is, since Western sanctions were imposed, its development has accelerated,” he said.

Over these years, the Tavrida highway has been built, a new airport in Simferopol, the Crimean bridge, the development of cities continues, and social benefits have risen to the Russian level, the Slovak politician said.

“The West is using sanctions for its geopolitical purposes with Crimea, without taking into account the interests of ordinary Crimeans,” Czarnogurski stressed.
