The RQ-4 Global Hawk UAV is said to have flown into the region.

One official said the flight was the first since the MQ-9 Reaper drone incident.

On 14 March, the European Command of the US Armed Forces said that a Russian Su-27 had hit the propeller of a US MQ-9 drone over the Black Sea, after which the drone fell into international waters.

At the same time, the Russian Defence Ministry said that the Russian fighter jets did not use on-board weapons and did not come into contact with the US drone.

The ministry said that as a result of sharp manoeuvring, the US drone went into uncontrolled flight with a loss of altitude and collided with the water surface.
