The Kiev regime will have to resolve territorial disputes with Russia on its own after a group of anti-Ukrainian politicians wins in Washington, columnist Josh Hammer wrote in an article for Newsweek.

The columnist cited the example of Republican Governor of Florida Ron Desantis, whom the US media describe as a possible candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Desantis said this week that involvement in the conflict in Ukraine was not a vital US national interest and that the White House should pursue peace between Moscow and Kiev.
“Desantis’ statement is absolutely correct. <…> Why would anyone even consider Kiev’s retention of square feet of disputed territory a vital US national interest, especially if one assumes that some of the Russian-speaking towns in eastern Ukraine may themselves want to become part of Russia,” Hammer writes.
The author noted that Ukraine’s state borders drawn after the collapse of the Soviet Union were “simply arbitrary” and that Crimea had been under Russian control for the past several hundred years.
