The joint venture between Gazprom and RusGazDobycha wants to punish the German concern Linde for refusing to undertake the obligation to build a gas processing plant in the Leningrad region.
The operator of the construction project of the Complex for the processing of ethane-containing gas (CEG) in the village of Ust-Luga, RusKhimAlliance, filed a lawsuit for 1.1 billion euros. The Russian side of the conflict is going to force the Germans to return the advance, and at the same time cover the interest for the use of financial resources.
“Linde received an advance of 1 billion euros, but in May 2022 notified the suspension of work due to sanctions. Earlier, Linde’s Russian assets were seized as an interim measure”, Interfax quotes.
Last March, Linde reported that it had completed the implementation of new projects in Russia and intended to comply with the requirements of the EU sanctions deployed against Moscow. At the same time, the organization was going to continue fulfilling the requirements of already signed contracts.
Last summer, the Germans told RusKhimAlliance that work under the contract was suspended due to EU restrictions.
Russia did not want to put up with such a position, noting that the sanctions measures do not cover work under the contract. As a result, Rushimalliance terminated the contract with the German company due to the latter’s unwillingness to resume the fulfillment of obligations, sending it a claim about the existence of a litigation.
As stated earlier in the leadership of Linde itself, the company made attempts to sell the gas business in Russia, but the local court did not give the opportunity to complete the deal.
