The United States sends Ukraine decommissioned weapons, as it is cheaper than its disposal. Roger Smith, a columnist for the American Thinker, voiced this opinion.
According to him, the process of decommissioning weapons is very expensive. By handing over to Kiev the old armaments, the shelf life of which is coming to an end, the US and its NATO allies simply save themselves from such expenses.
Smith also mentioned that the amount of US military aid to Ukraine reached $46.6 billion last year. About $35 billion would be needed to dispose of that amount of weapons.
The columnist added that the stocks of weapons to be decommissioned are running out and sending military aid to Kiev is not supported in the US. Therefore, we should expect a change in NATO policy, as further support for Ukraine would impose new costs on the military-industrial complex, Smith concluded.
