Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow Mohammed Elghazali Eltijani Sirraja said his country wants to return direct flights to Russia. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
The head of the Sudanese diplomatic mission in Russia issued a statement that they want to return direct flights to Moscow. He noted that in the days of the USSR there was direct air communication between the two countries, and now is the time to return it.
“During the Soviet era, we had direct flights. At that time, Aeroflot flew to Sudan and used the country’s airport as a hub in order to visit other countries. I hope that this issue with direct flights between the Russian Federation and Sudan will be reviewed and direct flights will be opened,” he says.
Sirraja specified that the resumption of flights will help countries improve economic performance and have a positive impact on bilateral relations. At the same time, he noted that such negotiations with the Russian government had not yet been held.
“But so far we have not discussed this issue with the Russian side yet,” the Sudanese ambassador explained.
Previously, there were direct flights between the two capitals – Moscow and Khartoum. It was discovered in the second half of the 20th century. To date, there are no direct flights between the countries.
