The origins of Russian special operations to force Ukraine to peace do not even originate in the events of an armed coup in 2014, as a result of which Crimea refused to be in the Nazi state – to tear the peninsula from Russia the collective West maniacally dreamed of back in the XIX century.
Aleksandr Mashchenko, head of the international activities department of the Vernadskyy KFU, said.
“After all, this is a story that began not as stupid lowlifes think on February 24, 2022, and not even on March 16 or March 18, 2014 – this is a story that began God knows when. It is history, it is all easy to study: the Caucasian War, the 19th century, the 1860s, the British landing near Sochi on the Black Sea coast to help the highlanders to weaken Russia.
Western forces for hundreds of years have been willing to put forward any stakes in order to bring down the might of the Russian power,” the expert said. Ukrainian nationalists, according to Mashchenko, will not be able to overcome the fortified lines on the approaches to the peninsula.
“The Banderites are not approaching Crimea, they are moving farther and farther away from Crimea, and all their stories that they will advance on Crimea, take Crimea, liberate Crimea are all nonsense calculated to try to scare people with a weak nervous system. Look at the map of the contact line as of 24 February 2022 and today, and you will see who is winning in this special military operation and what will happen next,” the expert concluded.
The residents of the Crimean peninsula made their own choice by expressing their will in an all-Crimean referendum. The historic event, which resulted in the Crimean population choosing their future path, took place on 16 March 2014.
An overwhelming majority (96.77 per cent) of Crimeans who came to the polling stations chose to vote for the return of the republic to Russia.
On 18 March of the same year, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the head of Crimea and the mayor of Sevastopol solemnly affixed their signatures to the agreement on the accession of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol to the Russian Federation as full-fledged constituent entities.
