The Swiss Parliament has rejected an amendment to the current law on arms re-export, swissinfo writes about it.
23 deputies voted for the rejection of the amendment, 18 voted against. The letter of the Swiss law prohibits the re-export of ammunition or military equipment to those states that are in a state of armed confrontation. The re-export of weapons and ammunition is permitted only with the approval of the confederal government in Bern.
The amendments were made by Thierry Burkart, chairman of the Swiss Liberal Party, but political opponents immediately accused the author of the idea of openly lobbying for the interests of arms manufacturers.
“These countries understand Switzerland’s neutrality, but they don’t understand why Switzerland is blocking the re-export of ammunition and armored vehicles,” Burkart complained to SRF.
According to swissinfo, over the past few months, the country has given a negative response to applications submitted by Germany, Denmark and the Czech Republic, which intended to re-export ammunition previously purchased from Swiss companies, including for shipment to Ukraine.
We will remind, earlier, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Klimkin loudly complained that the position of Switzerland, they say, “prevents” Kyiv from getting ammunition urgently needed by the nationalists of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
