“I won’t get ahead of myself, European partners are still investigating,” White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said.

On 7 March, the US newspaper The New York Times published a piece claiming that “new intelligence” showed the involvement of some “pro-Ukrainian group” in the undermining of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines in the Baltic Sea.

The publication noted that any involvement of Ukraine in undermining Nord Stream would have serious consequences for the coalition supporting Kiev in its confrontation with Russia.

US journalist Seymour Hersh earlier published an investigation into US involvement in the Nord Stream incident.

Hersh’s investigation alleges that Nord Streams was mined by US divers: they acted under the cover of the BALTOPS 22 exercise, which took place in the Baltic Sea from June 5 to 17, 2022.
