It is reported that representatives of the US State Department and the European Commission discussed with representatives of the diamond business the possibility of depriving Russia of revenues from the sale of gemstones. At the meeting, the representatives discussed the importance of industry participation “in future import measures relating to Russia, including diamonds,” the department said in a statement.

“Russia continues to earn billions of dollars from the diamond trade, and the conversation focused on the most effective ways to interrupt this revenue stream,” the publication reported.

The State Department said it would try to seek “economic consequences” for Russian Federation because of the special operation in Ukraine. The decision on depriving Russia of revenue from the gems is likely to remain open for a long time to come.
