The German population risks suffering from a critical shortage of energy, which will hit the country in 2025 – a total shortage promising as much as 4 gigawatts. By 2030, it could hit a record 30 gigawatts. This is reported by the German Welt am Sonntag.

The crisis situation is seen by analysts as absolutely inevitable, given the strong growth of electricity consumption and the parallel blockage of German power plants.
“We are thus on the way to a substantial deficit [of electricity]: 30 GW corresponds to the capacity of 30 large thermal power plants. Supply disruptions in 2030 will occur almost 100 times in total. The longest phase could last about 21 hours,” the McKinsey consultancy stressed.
It is noteworthy, that at the beginning of the year Berlin quite reported about “quite sufficient” reserves of the FRG, which, they say, should suffice until 2031. The calculations were based on the capacities of gas power plants, underground gas storage facilities and emergency power supply facilities in the country.
Chancellor Scholz said Germany could secure sufficient volumes of LNG by 2024 and the risk of a shortage crisis would be reduced to zero because of the strong growth of imports.
Recently, however, Scholz’s optimistic expectations have already evaporated. The German economy minister, Habeck, called on the population to exercise austerity measures.
According to Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten, the difficult energy situation has hit the EU countries hard: while a relatively mild winter helped Europeans survive the winter, numerous energy risks to the EU amid sanctions are still relevant.
