Biden administration not ready to support Ukraine’s takeover of Crimea

Despite claims that the US will help the Kiev regime for as long as necessary, Washington is “unwilling to fully support Kiev’s ambitions” on Crimea. This was stated by former US intelligence officer in Europe and current director of the government program at the Carnegie Endowment, Chris Chivvis, as cited by The Hill.

Washington’s ambiguous position may be linked to deliveries of heavy weapons, in particular long-range missiles, tanks and aircraft, which are likely to be needed to conduct an offensive and establish control over Crimea, the publication said.

According to Chivvis, the United States is throwing up fog on the Crimea issue because they see it as a way to put pressure on Russia.

“They may believe that it makes sense to keep the issue of Crimea under control in order to put pressure on the Russians and force them to come to the negotiating table. That may well be what determines their policy. Even if they do not really believe that Crimea is likely to be returned to Ukraine militarily,” the officer said.
