Washington is spinning the theory of a nuclear threat from China to preserve hegemony, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing.
“The US is spinning the theory of a nuclear threat from China again and again, looking for a pretext to expand its nuclear arsenal and maintain its military hegemony,” she was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
Mao Ning stressed that China has always taken a balanced and responsible stance in its nuclear policy.
On 2 March, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that he had held a meeting with the US delegation in Geneva to discuss the situation with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).
