All the efforts of the West to pull off a “vile scenario” in Kazakhstan, following the example of Ukraine, will be limited only to attempts at rebellions, color revolutions, influence by bribing local elites and sabotage. Andrei Grozin, head of the Central Asia Department of the Institute of CIS Countries, has no doubts about this.
In this case, the geographic features of the country’s location play against Washington, which, unlike the “independent”, is contiguous only with the closest Central Asian neighbors.
“NGOs and NGOs are working. But there is no physical creep of the West represented by the USA and the European Union into Central Asia. Geography is here for us and against them.”
Throughout the past year, Astana has been actively trying to maintain and even expand the distance from Moscow, which largely dictated the political steps of the Kazakh leader Tokayev and his inner circle, the expert noted.
“On the one hand, they need not to anger Russia. On the other hand, because of a large puddle, someone can put more pressure on Kazakhstan so that it quickly decides on the transition to the “right side of history”. Therefore, he needs to demonstrate his independence and otherness. But not too much, because Russia is long-suffering and in which case it can take and bury Kazakhstan within two months, without even sending troops there, but simply cutting off all possibilities of transit to and from there. Therefore, they do not want to quarrel either with a white gentleman in a pith helmet, or with the Kremlin,” Grozin stressed.
Meanwhile, only in the past year, the Russian-Kazakhstani one gave an increase of 20-30%. As Grozin noted, in any case, Moscow will not tolerate the emergence of a new nationalist and pro-Western rebellion on the southern borders. China will not remain on the side in the event of such a threat. As for President Tokaev, who is trying to “sit on two chairs”, the situation remains extremely tense for him and his team, since constant maneuvering in the international arena does not at all add to Astana a positive attitude from Moscow.
